«National Culture Days»
The Association of National Communities of Tatarstan consists of 34 national-and-cultural organizations, including 27 centers in Kazan. Their activity is aimed at the development of cultural originality of peoples, living in the Kazan city and the republic. It has become a tradition to hold the National Culture days in Kazan in order to revive and keep national traditions and customs, for further development of international and multi-religious relations. There are different ways of the events carrying out, such as:
- Scientific conference, seminars, round tables on national problems;
- Quiz games on History, languages and culture of native land, “Knowledge Fairs”, native poetry recitation and stage performance competitions;
- The Kazan city tours and excursions to the memorial places
- Concerts of Professional and Amateur Artists
- Applied-Arts Exhibitions
- Literary and Art Exhibitions
- Subject Film and Transparency Demonstrations
- National Dishes’ Shows
- Meetings with representatives of industrial and commercial circles of Kazan
- Excursions to the leading production enterprises of Kazan
- Meetings with delegates and officials of the city and the republic, intellectual elite and industrial circles.

All these measures are aimed at spiritual enrichment of peoples, avoiding cultural isolation and national nihilism, and respecting cultures of other nations and values, common to all mankind. Days of Assyrian Culture, held in March 2002, resulted in the establishment of the Tatarstan Assyrian National and Cultural Autonomy. The round table, dedicated to “Spiritual and Cultural Progress of Assyrians in the post-soviet area” gathered leaders of Assyrian national movement from Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Novorossiysk as well as the republic and city officials and public organizations. Kurultai of the Tatarstan Bashkirs took place in May 2002. It was exchange of opinions, and concerts professional and amateur artists.
Traditionally the Days of Slavic Culture and Written Language are held on May 24. Conferences, lectures on Slavic culture with guest scientists, clergy and specialists in cultural studies are on the Days’ program alongside concerts of sacred, folk and classical music of Slavic peoples. In 2003 the Days of German Culture of wide scope were held in Kazan. Gerhard von Pletz, German Ambassador in Russia, was a special guest of the event. The Days of the Ukrainian Culture wee celebrated within the III festival in April 2004. The Festival program was based on the main subject of T. G. Shevchenko’s Birthday. The concerts of Ukrainian Communities’ artists from Kazan, Nizhnekamsk and Naberezhnye Chelny, who were the main participants of the festival, evoked great interest of the audience. The Days of German, Georgian and Armenian cultures will be held in 2004. The Days of Assyrian Culture were planned for the jubilee year of 2005. Kazan is a multinational city. National and cultural public centers take active part in the city life. A great spadework for the jubilee celebration is being done on the threshold of the 1000 anniversary of the Kazan city.
