On 28 August in Kazan final meeting of Great Volga Route's cities conference was opened. The idea of International project "Great Volga Route" was for the first time promoted on August 2000 in Kazan. A year later in the cities of Kazan, Bulgar, Uliyanovsk, Samara, Saratov, Volgograd, Astrakhan the first stage of International sciential-practical "Great Volga Route" conference was held. Passing other important parts of Great Volga Route: St.Petersburg-Stockholm, Astrakhan-Teheran, St.Petersburg-Kazan, marked previous three stages of the conference.

About 400 representatives of the scientific world, public associations, political, state and religious figures from more than 20 countries took part in the "Great Volga Route" project.

More than 100 participants of the project gathered in the Kazan city hall. RT State Council Chairman Farid Mukhametshin, the Head of Kazan administration Kamil Ishakov, mayors of city-participants of Great Volga Route, scientists from Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan, representatives of Association of Cooperation between the Republic and the Volga regions "Big Volga" are among them.

International project will be continued. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to create Association of cities of the Great Volga Route, and creation of the Great Volga Route Institute.
