Kazan having settled housing problems effectively became one of the nominees for the international award of World Leadership Forum.

The RIA Novosti informs that the award committee created a list of 20 cities, which are mentioned in one or several nominations, ecology, housing, education, employment, city management, in particular.

Kazan is a candidate for an award for the best solution to the problem of people relocation out of dilapidated habitations.

The committee highlights the role of the RT President state off-budget fund, which engaged 760 million rubles into construction and reconstruction of the city buildings. Approximately 100 000 families moved to modern comfortable apartments.

315 tenement-houses, 6 schools, 7 kindergartens, and 2 polyclinics were built. New road coatings were placed and water- and gas supply was provided.

Dьsseldorf, Liverpool, Lagos, several USA cities, the capital of Ethiopia Addis-Ababa, the capital of Saudi Arabia Riyadh are among the nominees.

The rewarding ceremony takes place on December 6, 2005 in the Royal Court in London.
