«Sports in Kazan»
The Government of Tatarstan and the City Administration pay a lot of attention to sports in Kazan. This activity also implies renovation and construction of sport arenas, thus, making achieve great results in the republican and All-Russia competitions as well as international championships.
There are 1185 sport centers in Kazan, including 300 gyms, 16 swimming pools, 15 ski pavilions, and 44 sport schools, where more than 29 thousand children, teenagers and young people can train in 38 different sports
The biggest sporting centers of Kazan, such as the “Basket-Hall” indoor arena, opened in 2003, the Fitness Centre and Aqua-Park, provide a wide range of sport and health-improving activities.
The “Rubin” Football Club centre is being built in the city now, while the old sport grounds, such as the Central Stadium are reconstructed. There is also Children’s Aquatic-and-Rowing Club and the Specialized School for Olympic Trainees in Kazan. The City Foundation for Sports Development has been established to provide good conditions for sport activity in Kazan and give financial support to children’s, juniors’ and masters’ teams, participating in All-Russia championship and international competitions.

In 2003 the “Rubin” football club, debuting in the Premier Division, took the bronze medal in the championship of Russia. It was for the first time in the history of Russian football. Thus, the team drew attention of numerous spectators both in Kazan and in the republic. The “Dinamo” club has been the winner of Russia Field-Hockey Championship. The results of the “Dinamo” volleyball team and the ladies’ basketball team “Tecknologhichesky Universitet” have also been an achievement.
More than 300 competitions involving 28 thousand participants are held annually in the city to propagandize a healthy way of life and motivate systematical physical training and sports.
